This Paper discusses the analysis of concrete hollow block masonry (HBM) prisms in running bond with difflerent block geometries under eccentric compression. Hollow blocks of unsymmetrical cross-sections with different percentages of solid area have been evoloved. Their behaviours in masonry prisms under eccentric compression have been compared with that of a conventional block with symmetrical cross-section, using a special-purpose three-dimensional elastic finite-element analysis program, developed adopting eight-noded isoparametric solid elements. The potential increase in the capacity of masonry with blocks of unsymmetrical sections is evaluated. The need to determine the enhancement in the capacity of masonry with hollow blocks of symmetrical and unsymmetrical cross-sections over the capacity of that with solid blocks, through systematic experimental investigations, is emphasized.
