Summary
The lack of adequate data made necessary the investigation of the basic mechanics of concrete pumping. Unsaturated materials pass stresses by inter-particle contact and give rise on commencement of movement to a pressure build-up which in a non-tapering duct is exponential with distance pumped. Adequate saturation by water/cement paste reduces the resistance to a favourable linear type, subject to increase with velocity, but independent of operating pressure.
