The scope of the work being undertaken in the Cement Section of Birkbeck College Research Laboratories is outlined. A brief account of the phenomena of X-ray reflection from crystals is followed by a description of: (a) X-ray tubes, H. T. gear and general layout of the laboratory: (b) powder cameras and accessories, and powder photographs; (c) single crystal cameras and photographs; (d) a special camera for long range work; (e) photographs taken of hydration products using a mica cell; (f) auxiliary apparatus. The article ends with an appeal for co-operation from users and manufacturers of cement to provide the crystal specimens necessary to carryon the work.
