The composition of the ferrite phase in Portland cement*

A study of the composition of the ferrite phase present in commercial Portland cements has been made using powder X-ray diffraction techniques. From the results of an examination of thirty-one different samples, the most frequently occurring composition lies between 4CaO.Al2O3.Fe2O3 and 6CaO.Al2O3.2Fe2O3.
