The paper describes procedures for testing the strength of “scaled-down” concrete mixes suitable for models of concrete structures. The effects of the scale of mix and the size of test specimen on the magnitude and scatter of the results are given in detail. It is concluded that tests on 1½ in. diameter cylinders 3 in. long give a satisfactory measure of the strength of concrete made with aggregate passing a 3/16 in. sieve. Mix design curves are given for a limited range of mixes of medium workability.
