Experimental blastfurnace cement incorporating high-magnesia slag*

Experimental granulations have been carried out on slags from blastfurnaces employing a dolomitic burden. The resulting slags, containing 15–18 per cent MgO, were made up as Portland blastfurnace cements and standard tests were carried out. Cements of good quality were obtained, although the substitution of MgO for CaO in the slag results in a fall in strength. In spite of the high MgO contents, no periclase was formed in the slags, and the cements showed no long-term unsoundness.
