Expansion of concrete due to alkali—silica reaction: an explanation

The literature dealing with the alkali—silica reaction is briefly introduced and experimental data are given which illustrate the relationship between expansion, reactive-aggregate content and concrete age. A simple explanation is given to account for the observed data.
