Tests have been undertaken over a period of one year to compare the time-dependent properties of high-cement-content (500–730 kg/m3) concretes with and without a superplasticizing admixture. For mixes containing the superplasticizer. there was an improvement in strength and modulus of elasticity and a decrease in shrinkage, but there were increases in creep and swelling. The process of microcracking is postulated to be a contributing factor in shrinkage and in creep under drying conditions.
