The linear localization technique known as the acoustic emission technique was appliedto the investigation of crack initiation and propagation in lime–sand concrete. The results showed that all parts of the tested lime–sand concrete specimens were damaged to some extent during the fracture process. The fracture energy and specific fracture energy were measured by use of the Instron 1346 materials testing machine. On the basis of the experimental results, the influence of autoclaving schedules, calcium–silicate ratio and water–solid ratio on fracture energy and specific fracture energy of this concrete was researched.
