In order to meet new demands, the performance of cementitious composites needs to be altered scientifically, rather than on a trial-and-error basis. In this regard, a computational approach is proposed to predict the properties (modulus, strength and strain) of cementitious composites. The information from an analytical hydration model (at the lowest scale) is used for homogenisation and upscaled to obtain the properties of the cementitious composite. The proposed computational method has the unique characteristics of not only predicting the mechanical properties of the cement composite with reasonable accuracy, but is also able to trace how the properties evolve during the hydration process. The developed method is also extended to predict the strength and strain capacity of fibre incorporated cementitious composite. The analytically obtained results at each scale are validated through experimental investigations. The computational approach proposed and the findings of this study will assist the development of performance-based design of concrete composite.
