The Construction Law Handbook is a legal reference work that is updated annually. It is aimed at professionals who need access to the most up-to-date construction law guidance. Unlike many other books this handbook is not a book on law for lawyers but is instead written for non-lawyers. Experts from the largest specialist construction law companies and leaders from within the construction industry have combined their knowledge to produce this authoritative resource that addresses the most important construction law issues for the engineering professional, in a practical and straightforward way. This edition addresses the critical matters that relate to construction law including the legal issues that arise during the course of a construction project, organising an engineer’s practice – from international operations to employment law, general law as relates to the construction industry covering topics such as health and safety and environmental issues and concludes with in-depth coverage of construction disputes. In addition the handbook contains three very useful tables, namely: (a) table of cases; (b) table of UK statutes and statutory instruments; and (c) table of European legislation.
The handbook also contains the Construction Law Handbook Newsletter, the bimonthly digest, edited by Hamish Lal, which includes the most recent relevant developments in legislation and case law and applies them to the appropriate chapter of the handbook. Newsletters up to and including September 2008 are included in this volume. Those published in 2009 will be available in print, and on the website (www.constructionlawhandbook.com), and will be bound into the 2010 edition.
Thomas Telford Ltd is currently working on the ICE Manual of Construction Law – a title that has evolved from this handbook, which the Manual will subsequently replace. The editors of this handbook will remain in this role for the ICE Manual of Construction Law. The editors have reviewed the contents of the handbook and have identified several new chapters which are intended to supplement the present contents. Accordingly, it is clear that this annually updated handbook has been well received by the industry over the years such that ‘more of the same and more’ is required.
All in all this handbook is an excellent resource consisting of some 1000 pages providing a valuable reference textbook for all those professionals involved in commercial aspects of contracts.
