I find the comments by Castelo and Lehmann and by Puranam to be highly insightful. They take the discussion into some quite fruitful areas by considering AI’s unintended consequences for human behavior as well as its intended consequences for theory. Just as these commenters extend the discussion by picking up on some things said and unsaid in my paper, I would like to pick up on some things said and unsaid in their comments. Specifically, I would like to discuss how AI may impact our concepts of self and our concepts of what constitutes knowledge and understanding.
