The road safety auditing process has moved on significantly from naïve beginnings, nearly 30 years ago, where a scheme simply ‘passed’ or ‘failed’. The road safety audit (RSA) is now an accepted (though often resented) part of the design process. It is meant to be more of an advisory system, identifying not only ‘problems’ but also recommending ‘solutions’.
