Experimental studies on the behaviour and performance of anchored wires in concrete using punched ends were performed at the Laboratory for Concrete Technology and Structural Behaviour, a research unit at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto. The wires were used as the main reinforcement in concrete beam models subject to three-point bending tests. The experiments revealed various failure modes. Analytical design models were developed taking into account the anchorage performance and pull-out forces, depending on the concrete strength, cover depths and head sizes. This anchorage device makes it possible to substantially reduce wire bond lengths when compared with current procedures using straight wires.
