Papers published in Structures and Building are eligible for awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers. Papers from any of the ICE journals can be nominated for several awards. In addition, each journal has awards dedicated to their specific subject area.
On Tuesday 25 October 2005, outgoing ICE president Colin Clinton will present awards to the following papers published in Structures and Buildings in 2004. The editorial panel nominated their best papers and an awards committee chaired by David Hodgkinson allocated the awards.
The Baker Medal, presented for the third best paper overall, has been awarded to: Ellis B. R. and Littler J. D. Response of cantilever grandstands to crowd loads. Part 2: load estimation. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Structures and Buildings, 2004, 157, No. 5, 297–307.
The James Watt Medal, presented for the best paper having a substantial energy content, has been awarded to: Louca L. A., Boh J. W. and Choo Y. S. The Howard Medal, presented for the best paper on engineering of structures or buildings, has been awarded to: Baskaran K. and Morley C. T. Using yield line theory for interior panels of slabs. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Structures and Buildings, 2004, 157, No. 6, 395–404.
