This paper outlines a relatively simple method for designing reinforced concrete slabs utilising in-plane membrane action. The method utilises and modifies existing analysis techniques commonly used in design offices for the design of bridge decks. The method indicates that lower reinforcement requirements can be justified for some constrained slab panels. Two examples are provided to demonstrate the method and compare results with conventional methods.
