Geotextiles used in basal drainage of embankments: a case history

Geotextiles are credited with the ability to filter, drain, separate and reinforce soil. These functions can be performed in isolation or in concert depending upon the requirements of the designer. A case history is presented in which the filtration, separation and reinforcing functions are detailed to produce an economic design for a basal drainage layer to an embankment where surface water infiltration threatens long-term stability
