Papers published in Water Management are eligible for awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers. Papers from any of the ICE journals can be nominated for several awards. In addition, each journal has awards dedicated to their specific subject area.

On Tuesday 25 October 2005, outgoing ICE president Colin Clinton presented awards to the following papers published in Water Management in 2004 (see Fig. 1). The editorial panel nominated their best papers and an awards committee chaired by David Hodgkinson allocated the awards.

The Telford Medal, presented for the overall best paper, was awarded to: Sellin R. H. J. and van Beesten D. P. Conveyance of a managed vegetated two-stage river channel. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Water Management, 2004, 157, No. 1, 21–33.

The Robert Alfred Carr Prize, presented for the best paper on water engineering, was awarded to: Clarke B. A., Jones C. J., Evans H. L., Crompton J. L., Dorea C. C. and Bertrand S. Multistage filtration for developing world surface water treatment. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Water Management, 2004, 157, No. 3, 143–149.

The Telford Prize, presented for the second best paper on water engineering, was awarded to: Macdonald A., Harwood S. D. R. and Vaughan P. R. Ladybower Dam: upgrading in a national park. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Water Management, 2004, 157, No. 1, 13–20.
