An organisation for improving flood resilience in Thailand Available to Purchase

The extensive flooding in 2011 severely affected all economic sectors in Thailand and had a broad impact on the country. The aim of this study was to analyse the problems and failures involved in previous flood management. The research methodology involved document reviews, visits to selected organisations, expert interviews, and seminars. The collected data were analysed using the SWOT technique to determine the advantages and disadvantages and the forms of the current action plans of the core organisations. The results of the study were summarised, and recommendations were provided as follows: (a) speed up the establishment of the Ministry of Water Resources and develop the organisation's structure to integrate the core units and agencies, water governance and relevant information; (b) expedite the amendments relating to the standing national committee concerned with the issue of water management and water disasters; and (c) provide a system for the management of information on water resources in the form of a national data archive centre, which would have the primary responsibility for gathering data and for the analysis and dissemination of information to the individuals and agencies involved.
