In 1966, the first medium-density fibreboard (MDF) mill was established in New York State. The Deposit mill had an initial capacity of 45 000 m3/year. Since then, MDF production has increased year on year and it can now be considered as a globally produced commodity product, with 100 million m3 manufactured every year.
