Interdisciplinary studies

Any attempt to further the cause of interdisciplinary approaches to problems whatever the field of origin is to be commended. The efforts therefore of the School of Interdisciplinary, Romania, which has produced a Bulletin of Interdisciplinary, which is edited by Dr Eng. Nicolae Bulz, have been much appreciated by cyberneticians and systemists and indeed, by those who believe that problems should be tackled using inter-,multi-, or trans-disciplinary methods. The bulletin appears under the auspices of the Romanian Committee of History and Philosophy of Science from the Romanian Academy. Its endeavours involve, as one would expect, scientists from many disciplines and in particular those who are involved with interdisciplinary studies, cybernetics, system theory, cognitive science, human sciences, social sciences and advanced technology.

The recent contents of the bulletin indicate the range of interdisciplinary studies that are currently of much importance. They include:

  • "Defining complex interdisciplinary societal problems a theoretical study for constructing a co-operative problem analysing method (COMPRAM)",written by Dr Dorian J. DeTombe (Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands). Contact: Handels Register, Amsterdam 2002550. E-mail: thesis@

  • "Epistemology and ontology of artefacts" Professor G.G. Constandache. Contact: School of Interdisciplinary, Romania.

  • "The structure of value" R.T. Allen. Contact: Avebury Series on Philosophy, Ashgate Publishing Group, Gower House, Croft Road, Aldershot,Hampshire GU11 3HR, UK.

  • "Grammar systems: at the crossroad of formal languages, artificial intelligence and artificial life" Gheorghe Paun. Contact: Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy, PO Box 1-764, 70700 Bucuresti, Romania.

  • "Transdisciplinary beyond interdisciplinary" P.J. Querinjean(Bioclub).

  • "The Frechet-Marinescu differential within a mathematical modelling of the dynamic system" Eufrosina Otlacan. Contact: The bulletin editor.

The editor of the bulletin has contributed: "Analysis and synthesis of decisional operation sub-systems", while the director-general of the World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics,Professor Robert Vallée, writes on: "Perception, decision, action:introduction à une 'Epistemo-Praxeologie'".

The President of the Committee of History and Philosophy of Sciences, Academic Professor Dr Stefan Milcu, provided the first contribution to the bulletin: "La Syllogistique du diagnostic Médical".

Cyberneticians and systemists and all interested in the interdisciplinary way of problem handling have been invited by Dr Nicolae Bulz to contribute just one page participating in either English or French. Please contact him direct at: str. Dionisie Lupu nr. 50, et 4, ap 9, Bucuresti, Sector 1.o.p. 22, c.p. 701814, Romania.

The bulletin has the support of the Norbert Wiener Institute of the World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics(WOSC).
