The publishers say that the authors of this book are aiming at “a high-level audience”. This means, presumably, that potential readers have a background in the field and understand the fundamental ideas behind the features that are centred on those techniques that are based on rough and fuzzy sets,including, they say, hybridizations. It does, however, introduce set theory,fuzzy set theory, rough set theory and fuzzy-rough set theory. Its additional attraction is that these are set out to illustrate the power and efficacy of the feature selection which are described through the use of real-world applications, together with illustrative worked examples.

One advantage of this text is that program files that implement the major algorithms that are covered in its sections are included on the web, together with the necessary instructions and datasets.
