World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics (WOSC-Website)

Fourth European Congress of Systems Science (CES-4)The 4th European Congress on Systems Science which is being organised by the Spanish Society of General Systems is to be held in Valencia Ibiza, Spain, 20-24 September 1999. Among the sponsors to the congress is the World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics (WOSC) and the Director-General (Professor Robert Vallée, France) and the Director of the Norbert Wiener Institute of WOSC (Professor Brian Rudall, UK) are members of the Program Committee.

The President of WOSC, Professor Stafford Beer (UK) is one of the distinguished members of the Honorary Patrons Committee.

The President of the Spanish Society of General Systems, Professor Lorenzo-Figueras has already started what he describes as an interactive organising process to ensure the success of this prestigious congress, which has the full support of the European Systems Union(UES). He writes that:

As is usual, a congress is not to be restricted to conferences, papers and scientific discussions, but must also and primarily favour personal interrelations. With the actual degree of development of communication facilities the interrelations initiated during the short congress period may continue through setting up work groups with people of different countries, and/or establishing regular contacts through the Internet. For this reason, we suggest and wish to favour activities that strengthen such interrelations. In order to do this, we propose this provisional program and expect to receive your comments.

It will be recalled that with full international support the congress has been held in Lausanne (1989), Prague(1993) and in Rome (1996) through the Systems Science European Union(UES).

International support to the European School of Systems which was held in Lausanne (1989), Strasbourg(1992),Valencia (1994), Hull (1996) and Neuchatel (1998) is also expected to continue for CES-4, once again to be held in Spain.

Details of the "call for papers",which is regarded at present as being tentative, is included in the Special Announcements section of this journal.

The chairman of the congress wishes to emphasise that the programme is not finalised and your opinion about it would be appreciated. Currently discussions with potential chairpersons of the various symposia are being held. Further details will be circulated in Kyberneteswhen they are available.
