Mechanism of learning

Learning is the purpose of teaching. To understand learning opportunely, in relation to the scientific formulation, we need to go back to its mechanism.

To be brief, we expound the formulation of the mechanism of learning,intended like the decodifying process which permits that information can pass from a code to another (Nigro, 1974).

Information from the initial code, which is the one containing the whole biological and also cultural history, in DNA, passes to the PROTEIN code, which is the new individuality. Behaviour, which is the peculiar and immediate way of being of individuality, is in the neuronic PATTERN code, which is obtained by subsequent passage of information from the PROTEIN code. At last, we have LANGUAGE, a peculiar code of the biopsychological organization, which permits the expression of the psychic life.

Environmental stimulation

Organisms live in close relationship with the environment. This takes part,also at the level of the mechanism of the information, to stimulate the decodifying process already mentioned. The subsequent passages of the information codified in the different structures of the organism are carried out by the intervention of the environmental information, considered to be like a stimulus for the organism's activity. Learning is a decodifying mechanism of information, it arises by environmental stimulation, meaning to use the gaze(Nigro, 1990) of the other partner of the psychosynaptic couple (Nigro, 1989;1997).

Digital structure of the biological organization

The reception of the information present in the environment, that is to say the reception of the environmental stimuli, happens by the sensorial analyzers. The subsequent transmission and elaboration inside the biological structures happens in a digital way. Consequently, the receptive phase, and then the expressive one, make use of the analogical system, with representations defined from the collection of elementary data with forms, colours, and sounds we know by our sensations. The physiological activity, elementary, is in digital terms.

The school environment stimulates the sensitive/sensorial activity

In the school system, there exists, obviously, an environment that determines also the digital influences, directly strengthened by what refers to sounds and images, that can act on the sensorial analyzers. All this is much better and enriched with substantial innovations.

Formative initial communication

The first form of communication, the one between mother and child, is intended as a prototype of the relation between adult and infant, and is carried out in a digital, electromagnetic way. It is this initial communication which determines the forming also of the language and significance of the other communicative elements. It is too evident that this communication, which can be said to be "direct", never stops, even if neglected unawares it always remains complementary to the one defined by the language, so it consists of the context(Nigro, 1992; 1996) (Figure 1).

Digital stimulation deliberately caused

With the present knowledge and the technological possibilities, it becomes necessary to strengthen the instructive systems, so as to use, at the most, both the analogical stimulation and the digital one. So school systems have to be based on a couple of persons, which have opportunely been called the didactic couple. The school technological intervention has to enrich chromaticity of school environment in the dark band which makes the communication easier (Figure 2).
