Machine Intelligence Award
Machine Intelligence Award
Progress towards intelligent machines is being encouraged by a new initiative from the British Computer Society Knowlege-based Systems and Applied Artificial Intelligence Specialist Group. The group recently announced a new award for machine intelligence. In particular for entries that include both software, such as speech recognition systems, and hardware, such as mobile robots.
What is unique is the basis of the competition. Competitors will not be allowed to speak and the award will begiven after live demonstrations of about 10-15 minutes duration. These were judged by the delegates to the Specialists Group Conference (held 10-12 December 2001). The Chairman of the Group says that:
We feel that this has the potential to grow into a high profile international showcase for some of the most exciting software and hardware developments in the world.
