Management science: current researches and developments – part I

This special double issue of the journal is the first in a series that contributes to our increased involvement with the field of management science. Our first journal patron Stafford Beer set the journal on course to include contributions in business and management cybernetics as well as systems science and related areas. He published in Kybernetes, a substantial number of his most important and stimulating contributions to the field and encouraged the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) in their strategy of publishing papers on all aspects of the interdisciplinary fields of systems and cybernetics. In this issue, we have invited contributors in this field, many of whom regard him as their mentor. The new and ongoing appointments to the EAB will reflect this.

We are pleased to publish these invited papers and, in particular, a contribution which examines Stafford Beer's contribution to management science.

In addition, we have included our usual range of regular journal sections and also a selection of papers that indicate our commitment to the wide range of interests in cybernetics and systems which we endeavour to satisfy.
