Most public and academic libraries and some school libraries in Nevada have been automated and connected in a statewide network since the early 1980s. These libraries are connected to one of five computer systems located at University of Nevada, Reno; Washoe County Library (Reno); State Library and Archives (CLAN); Las Vegas/Clark County Library District; and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Nevada covers 110,000 square miles. Reno and Las Vegas, its only two metropolitan areas, are over 450 miles apart. Cooperation has been a hallmark of these libraries since the 1960s when the first statewide reciprocal borrowing agreement was signed. Nevada boasts a statewide library card and a long history of working together. The services of each system mentioned above is described more fully in the individual reports below.
