Using ALANET as the example, the steps and procedures of establishing an electronic mail service are described. The goals of the service are defined, including improved access to the resources of ALA. Support features, such as bulletin boards and electronic newsletters, and the need for flexibility in meeting the unanticipated needs of members are stressed.
