It is with regret that Colby Riggs and I announce that Philip Calvert, our co-editor since we took on this LHTN project, has decided to pursue other opportunities. He is a senior member of the faculty of the School of Information Mangement at the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand and is well known for his scholarship, professional activities and publishing. You can follow his activity and professional interests as he is involved in other Emerald publications, Online Information Review and the Electronic Library. He brought many articles and features from the Australia/New Zealand and Southeast Asia region and we will try very hard to continue that coverage. Thank you Philip for all your contributions.

This issue covers many conference reports. Last March Ticer sponsored the International Spring School on Digital Libraries and ePublishing for Science and Technology at CERN in Geneva, in Berlin, the 21st Century Literacy Summit was held, in the USA the LOEX 2002 conference took place, and finally in May there was activity with the annual meetings of the North Carolina Serials Conference and the special OCLC Institute on Creating a New Reference Librarianship which kept librarians busy and active.

There are two feature articles included in this issue. One, on Web redesign functions and how to structure them in different library organizations by Atilla Vékony and Lisa Waite Bunker is rather timely as many libraries are beginning to shift the emphasis to a more relational database design. There are many hints about how to approach a redesign project, with a strong list of references at the end of the article. The second feature, written by EsméCowles and Steve Lawson, is a case study from the University of California, San Diego, of how the library staff there developed Sage, their new relational database for online resources.

Several columns should capture your attention. Howard Falk continues to explore the trends associated with e-books and discusses trends in introducing that content and format level around the world in the E-book Currents column. Gerry McKiernan reviews Web software for the peer review function and lists lots of choices currently available with different features. These resources form a toolkit that is critical for the new methods of e-publishing underway.

The new publications column will focus on books in our general thematic areas and special publications. With the time delays, journal indexing is readily available via other, more timely sources. "New and Noteworthy" trends and happenings are brought to our radar screens as they take place throughout the information industry with rapid speed. The Calendar should keep you occupied with lots of events taking place over the next few months.

It is our intention to shift the content of LHTN to include more short features on different library technology applications for librarians and information personnel in all work environments. We hope that you will contact us about your ideas and if you are interested in contributing. We hope that everyone has had a good summer.
