Purpose

This paper shows organisation of photo library systems with an aesthetic and narrative inspired by the art style of Studio Ghibli. The purpose of this paper is to explore how visual narrative, emotional intimacy and artistic curation might increase user engagement, better organise and facilitate the retrieval of digital images.

Design/methodology/approach

It devotes a conceptual, design approach of visual aesthetics, human–computer interaction and digital curation.

Findings

The results reveal that Ghibli-inspired design elements would greatly improve user experience by making photo libraries more intuitive, visually stimulating and authentic.

Originality/value

This paper offers a modern interdisciplinary approach that mixes animation aesthetics into the design of digital libraries.
