This study examined the relationship between reasons for selection and motivations for attending a six week international management and business development program held in Canada and self‐reported program value. Data were obtained from 71 managers and professionals from 12 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltics and the Former Soviet Union using questionnaires. Participants reported greater program value is selected because the program had potential usefulness to their employers and if motivated to become more effective managers. Practical implications of these findings are offered.
