GEC/AEI—THE AFTERMATH At the peak of the GEC/AEI takeover struggle (November 1967) the former directors of AEI sought to strengthen their case for continued independence by making a forecast of trading profits showing an anticipated surplus of £10m. for the year to December 31, 1967. This estimate played an important part in their defence tactics although, as subsequent events proved, it was not good enough to win the day.
