Introduction This article presents the results of a survey of the published accounts of 151 of the largest United Kingdom companies engaged in manufacturing and distribution. Its purpose is to demonstrate the effects to be expected from the introduction of Current Cost Accounting upon the picture of corporate performance to be gained from company reports. The 151 companies covered in this survey are those which have already published current cost accounts together with accounts based upon historic cost. The appendix to this paper suggests that, as a sample, this group of companies accounts for a substantial and, with a few exceptions, representative part of manufacturing industry and distribution in the United Kingdom.
