Purpose

This study examines the relationship between big data analytical capabilities (BDAC) (managerial and technical skills) and business innovation performance within a developing economy, focusing on the mediating role of resource integration and the moderating effect of technological dynamism.

Design/methodology/approach

Using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), this research analyses survey data from 442 organisations to examine how managerial and technical BDAC influences innovation performance across varying levels of technological dynamism.

Findings

The results confirm that BDAC has a positive impact on business innovation performance, with resource integration serving as a critical mediator. Moreover, the moderating role of technological dynamism highlights how rapidly changing technological landscapes amplify the effectiveness of BDAC.

Research limitations/implications

The study is contextualized within a developing economic context, which may apply only to countries sharing similar socio-economic structures and restricts generalizability to developed settings. Future studies should explore these dynamics across diverse industries and technological regimes.

Practical implications

Organisations are encouraged to invest in BDAC and optimise resource integration, particularly in industries characterised by high technological dynamism, to drive innovation performance.

Originality/value

This research extends the theoretical understanding of BDAC by demonstrating its role as a dynamic capability that enables innovation through resource integration. The study also highlights how technological dynamism enhances this relationship, offering fresh insights for both academics and practitioners in developing economic contexts.
