The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of project failure on bonding and bridging capital. We also study the moderating role of team distribution in these relationships.
This study uses a Qualtrics questionnaire to measure the variables – bonding capital, bridging capital, negative project performance, and team distribution. Responses from 303 project managers in the US were collected. The hypotheses were tested using partial least squares (PLS) and moderated hierarchical regression in SPSS.
The results reveal that project failure negatively impacts both bonding and bridging capital on projects. The results also show that the impact of project failure on both bonding and bridging capital is impacted by the project team distribution.
The study includes contributions to theory and empirical research in project management by analyzing the critical role of project failure and its impact on social capital. The study shows the remoteness of the project members is relevant to how project failure impacts social capital.
