Hello all and welcome to another issue of Management Decision (MD). As you may have heard, we had some good news the other week from Thomson Scientific (previously ISI), for which Management Decision has been under review for inclusion for sometime. To be included on the prestigious Social Sciences Citation Index, a journal must demonstrate excellent editorial content, international diversity of authors and editors, and assure timely publication,as well as fulfilling many other criteria. One of the most difficult criteria to fulfil is citations, i.e. how many times works from MD have been cited in other publications. We have clearly become very widely read, as coverage on this prestigious list will start from the first issue of this 2007 volume. The inclusion of the journal on Thomson Scientific is a real testimony to the hard work that the Editor, Regional Editors, Executive Editor and all the editorial board have put in over the years. The Social Sciences Citation Index is the key service used by academics and librarians to measure the quality of journals, so inclusion provides an excellent message in terms of the consistent quality of the journal. The credit for something like this goes to the entire journal community – quality of papers, numbers of submissions, increased dissemination, increased sales, timely output of quality material, excellent relations etc. – all contribute to this success. This takes the total number of journals Emerald has listed on the Social Sciences Citation Index to 36.

We are also looking forward to the next issue of MD, a very special issue. Based on “Alleviating poverty through trade”, this issue will probe into the whys and wherefores of world economies, and examine how business can affect a nation’s wealth and the wellbeing of its people. Guest edited by Dr David Lamond and Dr Rocky Dwyer, the special issue will be launched at the 2007 Academy of Management conference in Philadelphia, on Sunday, 5 August, at 5 pm, with goodie bags and gifts for all attendees. Please do try to join us.

Regarding usage of the journal, there is further good news! We have now confirmed that, in 2006, articles from MD were downloaded over 500,000 times, which is an incredible amount. It just goes to show how relevant and useful our content really is.

So thank you to everyone who reads the journal, writes for the journal, reviews for the journal, or contributes in any other way at all. 2007 is already proving to be a wonderful year for Management Decision, and long may it continue. Best regards
