Editorial
Article Type: Editorial From: Management of Environmental Quality: An International Journal, Volume 25, Issue 2.
Welcome to a further issue of MEQ. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, this journal is proud to be making a substantial contribution to world efforts on environmental and quality management.
On this editorial I would like to comment on the creation of a new UN body in charge of sustainable development. As a result of a process of informal consultations co-facilitated by the Permanent Representatives of Brazil and Italy the General Assembly adopted resolution 67/290 which defined the “Format and organizational aspects of the high-level political forum on sustainable development.”
The high-level political forum, consistent with its intergovernmental universal character, will: provide political leadership, guidance and recommendations for sustainable development, follow-up and review progress in the implementation of sustainable development commitments, enhance the integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development, and have a focussed, dynamic and action-oriented agenda, ensuring the appropriate consideration of new and emerging sustainable development challenges. The forum, under the auspices of ECOSOC, will conduct regular reviews, starting in 2016, on the follow-up and implementation of sustainable development commitments and objectives, including those related to the means of implementation, within the context of the post-2015 development agenda.
MEQ will follow the work of the body with interest and will continue to put an emphasis on papers which tackle environmental quality and sustainability, two matters of great importance in modern times.
