Europe adopts new media ecolabel

Revised criteria for awarding Europe's flower ecolabel to plant growing media have been voted by an EU regulatory committee and have now been published.

After strong opposition from some member states, use of peat will remain excluded. A recycling requirement has been introduced and a minimum organic matter content standard removed. In a third change, mineral-based products will be allowed as long as they are not extracted from EU protected sites.
