Green forestry body consults on revised criteria

Global green forestry certifier the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is consulting on plans to revise key principles and criteria behind an ecolabel guaranteeing that forest-based products come from sustainable sources. The revision is being proposed in response to more demanding consumer expectations,FSC says. FSC is seen as the “gold standard” for sustainable forestry management but has recently faced criticism for supporting operations that damage the environment. This is the first major revision of the scheme since it was launched 15 years ago.
