The European Crop Protection Association (ECPA) has launched a €2 m programme to train farmers, land managers and pesticide operators in methods to reduce water pollution from pesticide run-off and to tackle other diffuse sources.
Over the next three years the TOPPS-Prowadis project will give on-site demonstrations to farmers in Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Denmark and Poland. The objective is to help them meet requirements in the water framework directive and a recently-adopted law on the sustainable use of pesticides.
The project has just started and participants are given a demonstration of a new online database that will share best practices on spray drift management. TOPPS-Prowadis is funded by ECPA, whose members include Bayer, Dupont and Syngenta. It follows a first five-year training project.
