CALESA's special session on “Adapting to Climate Change: Lessons Learned and Challenges Ahead” (Nakuru, Kenya, October 20-25, 2013)
This special session is aimed at providing an opportunity to scientists from the African region to share their experiences and knowledge on the one hand, and to identify gaps and priorities for future action and research on climate change adaptation on the other. The main sponsors of this session are ICRISAT and Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), which is the secretariat of the International Climate Change Information Programme (ICCIP).
The main focus of this session is on lessons learned in the area of adapting smallholder agriculture in Eastern Africa to current variability and progressive changes in climate. This one-day session will consist of one plenary and three concurrent sub-sessions, each dealing with one of the three key components of adaptation research: planning and preparing, managing risks and opportunities, and recovering from shocks and stresses. Presentations will be put online at CALESA's web site for further dissemination. Selected papers presented at the special session will be peer-reviewed for possible publication. The sixth Soil Science Society of East Africa (SSSEA) conference on “Transforming Rural Livelihoods in Africa: How Can Land and Water Management Contribute to Enhanced Food Security and Address Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation?” is organized by the SSSEA in collaboration with the African Soil Science Society(ASSS). Its main aim is to critically analyze land and water management (LWM)technologies, innovative products and services, and strategies benefiting small-scale agriculture in Africa. Behavior, Energy and Climate Change (BECC) Conference (Sacramento, California, November 18-20, 2013)
The BECC Conference 2013 is the premier event focussed on understanding behavior and decision making with respect to energy usage, greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, and sustainability. Annually, 700 participants come together to share new research, discuss innovative policy and program strategies, build networks, and find potential partners for collaboration.
BECC brings together a range of academics, practitioners, and policy makers from a variety of fields engaged in energy and climate efforts in order to provide the latest and most relevant behavioral research, best practices, and methodologies. Papers from all relevant disciplines concerned with human behavior, society, and culture, especially work from applied anthropology, social psychology, behavioral economics, organizational behavior, political science, communication, and the cognitive sciences are welcome.
