Increasingly users of mental health services are asked to give up their time to represent the ‘user perspective’. Whether this is an opportunity or an imposition is debatable ‐ it can be daunting and at the same time exhilarating. It can also get you into a situation where you feel trapped and in need of good counsel. This important contribution with its guidelines for good practice, came with a request for anonymity, which we have respected.
