The teachers and administrators continue to work within the traditional mindset, which has never given priority to environmental responsibility and efficient utilization of resources that are aligned with the expected sustainability. Hence, the present research examines the impact of individual transitions on sustainability performance in organizations. The role of organizational sustainability culture.
A descriptive survey design was used, and the study population was the public school teachers in Lagos State, which has a population of 65,000, according to the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board. The stratified sampling method was adopted to capture proportional representation of the educational districts, resulting in a sample of 398 calculated through the Taro Yamane formula. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire that was based on previous validated research. The characteristics of the respondents were summarized using descriptive statistics, and the inferential analysis was done with the help of partial least squares structural equation modeling. Since it was cross-sectional, the findings are statistical correlations but not causal.
The results revealed that there is a positive correlation between the individual transitions and organizational sustainability performance. It was found that the organizational sustainability culture was a partial mediator, meaning that it describes the relationship, but there are still other factors that affect it. Since the study has a descriptive and correlational design, these results point to associations but not causal effects for future research to take advantage of. The study, therefore, recommended that school administrators and policymakers take a balanced stance that would promote individual sustainable behaviors and reinforce organizational sustainability culture in the public schools. The study concluded that the research has a contribution to theory, as it empirically investigates the mutual applicability of behavioral and cultural lenses in a school education setting.
The research establishes that sustainability performance of public schools is linked to individual sustainability-oriented behaviors of teachers and sustainability culture in organizations. It means that joint work must be done to enhance sustainability results through teacher capacity building, cultural reinforcement through leadership and structural considerations.
The research reveals organizational sustainability culture as a mediating variable, which presents a new angle to comprehend the dynamism of personal activities and institutional performance.
