In the last fifty years or so there have been many changes in life style of people in the United Kingdom. Changes in environmental factors may well be responsible for the increased incidence of several diseases, none of them infectious, over this period in time. One of the common conditions which predisposes an individual to ill health is obesity. While obesity itself is multifactorial, its common occurrence is undoubtably due to our own reduced energy expenditure combined with increasing variety and availability of food.
