The author was inspired to write this book after being ill, changing his diet and then recovering.

The book takes a political slant on food production, distribution, macrobiotics, soil and organic food and subsidies.

Fast food is discussed and a concept of slow foods which started in Italy with ideas of encouraging slow activities with environmental aspirations.

The book promotes a sustainable environmental approach to food production. While some of the information on nutrition does not seem to be based upon research, the 15 short chapters do make interesting reading.
