NHS walk-in centres

On convenient sites such as the high street the NHS walk-in centres are open seven days a week, mostly from 7.00 a.m. until 10.00 p.m. Services they offer include a consultation with an experienced NHS nurse, treatment for minor injuries and illnesses, health advice and information on other local services. By the end of this year there will be 36 centres open. They provide a service which complements the local family doctor and hospital and are open when it may not be appropriate to consult one's doctor. The centres have good links with all GP surgeries to ensure continuity of care for their patients and not to undermine the vital role of GPs. The centres can offer information on local out of hours GP and dental services and local pharmacy services. Essentially the centres mean that the NHS is there for people when it is convenient for them.
