The briefing document from the Westminster Diet & Health Forum event,"EU Food Labelling Policy – Assessing Developments and Charting the Way Forward", is now available to purchase.

The Seminar examined latest thinking on the impact of food labelling on healthy eating and consumer purchasing habits. Themes discussed included:

  • the extent of public demand for a universal labelling policy, and the merits of the proposed schemes;

  • the effects of food labelling on public health within the various demographic sectors;

  • early lessons from the implementation food labelling policy in the UK; and

  • the current state of EU policy, and the EU review of labelling.

The publication contains a complete record of all speeches, question and answer sessions, and supplementary articles submitted by delegates after the event. It provides in-depth discussion of the latest thinking in the field, as well as the future direction of public policy, from regulatory and industry perspectives.

This document has been distributed to, and is being used as a reference by officials at Government departments and agencies, and Members of both Houses of Parliament.

The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Herman Koëter, the Director of Science and Deputy Executive Director, European Food Safety Authority. Other contributors included Andrew Smith, Government and Community Affairs Manager at Tesco and Julian Hunt, Director of Communications at the Food and Drink Federation, as well as parliamentarians, officials and other industry figures.
