Fewer people may be able to afford cosmetic surgery in these recession-hit times, but according to a poll by Hoodia Mint one in three people trying to lose weight would go under the knife to improve their body shape.

The survey quizzed people between the ages of 25 and 50 who had between 8lbs and 2st of weight to lose about their attitudes to diet, weight and self-image. In addition to asking whether or not they would consider having cosmetic surgery, the survey also posed the question, “Which part of your body do you like the least?” Perhaps unsurprisingly more than two thirds answered“spare tyre”, “belly” or “stomach”.

Meanwhile it is no secret that losing weight can be a struggle for many people, and that being overweight can dent your self-image. So when asked how they felt about their overall shape, only a third said they were not too unhappy with it. The remaining two-thirds of those questioned, however, had less-than-enthusiastic opinions of their bodies. When asked how they felt about their body shape when they looked in a mirror, some of the most negative answers ranged from “I don't stand in front of a full-size mirror” to“Terrible”, “Fat and disgusted” and even “Absolutely mortified”.

However, despite a third of those questioned claiming they would consider cosmetic surgery if they could afford it, when asked what would make them feel more confident about their body, the most popular answer was simply “losing weight”.
