Article Type: Conference reports From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 41, Issue 1

SENSE stands for self-employed nutritionists support and enlightenment and represents a group of nutritionists. They have regular meetings as well as a web site.

At the meeting in September, they had presentations on:

  • New requirements for the registration and regulation of nutritionists which discussed the new criteria.

  • An extremely interesting presentation on the first results from the rolling national diet and nutrition survey which showed there was still an excess of sugar in the diet and also too little fibre.

  • Information on updating the key UK food composition tables of McCance and Widdowson.

  • Professional indemnity insurance for nutritionists.

SENSE is a helpful organisation for nutritionists to join and for those wanting expertise in this subject the web site is well worth looking at: www.sense-nutrition.org.uk
