Handwashing hygiene
Deb Ltd have launched the first of a series of educational initiatives designed to improve hand washing frequency and effectiveness in the food industry. The company has produced a three-step – cleanse, sanitise and restore – approach. The hands are cleaned with an antibacterial soap, then sanitised with an alcohol gel and finally restored with a reconditioning cream. Educating workers on correct cleaning procedures is an essential element of the hygiene process. Given that lapses in hygiene procedure within the food industry can lead to cross-contamination it is important that workers handling food have the opportunity to ensure that their hands are free of bacteria. Over 93,000 notified cases of food poisoning were reported in 1998, the highest figure of cases reported this decade.
